Each Friday at Back East Out West Sports we take a look at +/- five semi-related sports threads or topics touching on the news of the day. We’ll start on the hardcourt this week, Jan. 2 2015:
- Golden State Warriors (26-5) and Atlanta Hawks (24-8) sitting atop the Western and Eastern Conferences. Wonder what were the odds on that?
- Knicks mighty bad, though.
- As a Giants/Raiders fan I’ll gladly admit: the longer I watch Phillip Rivers fling it, the more I want him to reach a Super Bowl and shine. That personality on media day will win pregame week, the arm could own the fourth quarter and earn Rivers some Canton nods.
- Derek Carr seems eager to attack the off-season, an upbeat one for the Nation. Reggie McKenzie has some pieces in place, the number four pick in the draft and a bit of an upswing to sell to free agents. Things looking up in the 510. 310?
- Six weeks until pitchers and catchers report. Hope springs eternal, Mets fans!
Extra point: I caught the return of Latrell Sprewell as a Knick to Oracle Arena in 1999, one year after Chokegate. Dubs won.
